The 5-Step Development

STEP 1 CREATE CYMDEITHAS FUDD YSGOL CRIBYN cyf. (Community Benefit Society Ltd.)

In forming this company we’ll all have an opportunity to buy shares and become its co-owners. Unlike a private, commercial company it’s not an individual, or some closed group, that profits but everyone – not as cash in our pockets but in the sense of wellbeing that comes from collaborating as we develop the school as a multi-purpose centre where we can all meet, work and enjoy together.

STEP 2 GET BACKING OF BIG PUBLIC FUNDERS

If we create a strong Community Benefit Society we’ll be able to confidently tell the public funders (Lottery / Welsh and UK governments etc) that there is strong support for the project here in Cribyn. We need their backing, of course, as we not only need to buy the property from the county council but we also need to adapt the building so that it is fit for its new purpose.

STEP 3 BUYING THE SCHOOL

Now that the county council has stated that they have no further use for the building, Cymdeithas Clotas – on behalf of the community – has stated our desire that this important asset is retained for the benefit of the whole community. In turn, the council has responded positively and is anxious to see the school purchased and developed for Cribyn’s benefit. Creating the Community Benefit Society will give us the legal framework to co-own the property. It will also permanently lock the asset as one that can only be used for the community’s benefit.

STEP 4 ADAPT AND BUILD

So as to help young families, the project aims to convert the ‘new’ classroom (formerly the Ty’r Ysgol / School House) into an affordable home. This will also generate rental income to be set against the running costs of the community hall and its facilities.
